AIV Reminder is an excellent reminder application that uses diverse personas to read out loud the content of your notes. It also uses sounds (MP3 or WAV) to alert you, or if you want you can even use your own voice.

AIV Reminder includes a calendar up to 2099, four different types of analogue clock, a digital clock, a daily alarm, a simple alarm, various personas, etc. If you turn off the PC and the alarm passes its date, the program will tell you at the next possible opportunity. Of course, you can change the personas used as you wish (you have Merlin the magician, the genie of the lamp, etc).
